Asian Faces

A camera can provide an inroad to the unknown. This project ‘Asian Faces’ tests the reactions of males encountered along my travels in Mongolia, Sri Lanka and India. Everyday we interact with people – in shops, on buses, on the street.

In our familiar environment and culture we come to know what to expect. But what happens when barriers form? With different languages, customs and unknown surroundings, overcoming divides can be intimidating. Then suddenly the camera emerges, eyes soften and smiles are seen. These images show the warmth of strangers and that the ancient Chinese proverb ‘One picture is worth ten thousand words’ really does ring true.
