Setup in the 1970’s by Dr Mehta, Jaipur Foot is a prosthetic limb factory in northern India that over the past 50 years has fitted over a half a million prosthetic limbs. It is a one stop shop where anyone who can get there will be measured for the correct limb, then boarded while it is being made. The patient is then taught how to use their new limb. Most people spend around three days there and arrive with less than a dollar in their pocket.
I took a reportage approach to this photographic project, wanting to capture a day in the life of the the goings on. The incredible textures and slightly haphazard nature of the centre only added more to the story. The images were later used by UNICEF.
